About the Journal

The European Journal of Entomology was founded in 1904 as a periodical of the Czech Entomological Society (under the title Acta Societatis Entomologicae Bohemiae). We have experienced significant chances since then (including the title), which reflect the development from a local magazine in Czech towards its current status of a well-established international entomological forum included in all major scientific databases.

During this time numerous people contributed to the establishment of the current EJE system, and we want to acknowledge all our past and current collaborators. We are also indebted to all our reviewers and gratefully acknowledge their help.

The emblematic insect of the European Journal of Entomology is the heteropteran Pyrrhocoris apterus, which became a common model species after the pioneering and ground-breaking research in animal physiology starting with the discovery of the juvenile hormone analogue before the identification of the hormone itself. We trust in Pyrrhocoris apterus as a faithful symbol of and a link amongst the entomological disciplines covered by the European Journal of Entomology.

EJE is an author-friendly journal and provides authors with the option to submit a contribution with only the absolutely necessary formal requirements, which will later be specified in more detail depending upon the eventual success of the submission. We want to kindly invite all potential contributors to consider the EJE as a reliable partner in disseminating their findings and future prospects. We do our best to process submissions promptly and evaluate them strictly but fairly. There are no restrictions regarding the subject, author, geographic region, and so on, on any submission. Taxonomically, EJE accepts contributions on most arthropods, including Hexapoda, Myriapoda, Chelicerata and terrestrial Crustacea. We prefer comprehensive analytical papers in which an insect is the main object of interest, not merely a testing tool as is common in applied research. We will be happy to hear from you and receive your submissions. Please contact us preferably by e-mail at eje@eje.cz, or contact the Editor-in Chief at jan.sobotnik@entu.cas.cz.
